It has recently been annouced from the FSA that students in the UK will be given lessons on cooking food safely whilst living on campus. Catering at University is very basic and is not safe what so ever so now each University are now implementing a small party to help and guide students whilst living on campus to cook properly and safely.
Why are the Government doing this? Firstly, it will be hopefully be teaching students the value of cooking food safely and properly and secondly it will save on damage costs on the University itself. At the moment there is literally too much damage being caused to University property and there has to be something done about it. Educating the students early on is the most effective way to learn about the value of good and safe cooking inside University property. Whilst I was studying at University keeping the kitchen in a good state was not on the top of my priorities and neither was it anyone elses. However, many Universities from across the country are now investing a lot of time and a good amount of cash to make sure students will be cooking safely in halls of residence. So, how are they going to do this? Initially, the Universities will be putting up helpful posters and banners to help studetns on campus and after that monthly appraisals will be introduced to monitor activity on halls.
Of course not all students are in-capable in the kitchen as some would think. Corporate Catering courses at University have shot up. More people from across the board are wanting to study catering. Wedding Caterers and Private Catering is a massive industry and more students are willing to learn about the trade. The work itself is really rewarding and pays really well so it is obvious that people will be interested in applying themselves.
